PunjabPunjab: The Holy City of Bliss

Remarkable history, sprinkled with the audacious past of Indian freedom struggle, Punjab tourism is a conglomerate of tempting cuisines, cultural traditions and of course, indelible festivals. Ancient history, spirituality and cultural ethos of Punjab attract foreign tourists from all over the world. The majestic examples of Sikh architecture can be spotted in the palatial palaces, temples, shrines and even the battle sites. In addition, the lush green landscapes of Punjab, its salubrious air, the fertile lands, often dotted with lakes, further add to the rustic and virgin beauty of the state. Literally, the word 'Punjab' means a land of five rivers, which include Jhelum, Chenab, Sutlej, Beas and Ravi.

There are several tempting tourist destinations in Punjab. The important forts include the Ancient Fort in Bathinda, Faridkot Fort, Anandpur Sahib Fort, Kesgarh Qila and Payal Fort. Tourists from various countries come to worship at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, which was established by Guru Ram Das in 1577. It is also affectionately called as the 'Spiritual Capital of Sikhs.' It endows a very arresting feature at night, illuminated with countless lights. The Wagah Border is of further importance to the land of Punjab, where the soldiers from India and Pakistan indulge in the flag lowering ceremony during the evening. The other destinations for intrepid travellers include Kila Raipur, Anandpur Sahib and Patiala.
