Visakhapatnam: The land of all colours

Visakhapatnam can be seen as a heady cocktail of golden sandy beaches, blue sea, green lofty hills and stirred in the history of culture and crafts. Even the lemony embellishment of archaeological site is worth mentioning of! Visakhapatnam or Vizag is also known as the City of destiny and Jewel of the East Coast. Once a tiny fishing hamlet, the city was transformed to a major port by a quirk of fate. The village became a part of the powerful Kalinga Empire in 260 BC during the rule of King Ashoka. Later in 15th century it became the part of Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. But it was the Britishers who realised the true potential of the city and developed it into a busy and commercial port city. Visakhapatnam became a part of the Andhra Pradesh in 1956.

Rishikonda Beach here is the  true delight for the tourists with its unspoilt virgin beaches. Lawson's Beach and Yarada Beach are some of the other beaches seen here. Simhachalam Temple, VUDA Park and Kailasagiri Park are some more sightseeing options in Visakhapatnam. The most interesting of all is the place called Dolphin's Nose.  It is a vantage point from where the entire city can be viewed. The four days Visakha Festival celebrated every year in December is a sought after time to visit the holy land of Visakhapatnam.
