Kullu-Manali: The Twin Paradises

Situated beyond the colossal heights of Himalayan ranges and along the quietly flowing River Beas, Kullu-Manali, the twin hill stations, gifted with nature's charm and scenic beauty are an enigma for Himachal Pradesh. Where Manali is called as the 'Queen of Valleys', Kullu saves the name of 'Valley of Gods' for itself. Apart from their pristine beauty they are also known for being the spiritual and sacred places for Hindus. The two cities are famous for their apple orchards and their knit work. Kullu was once called 'Kulanthapitha' meaning 'end of the inhabitable world'. The town finds its first mention in Hindu epic Mahabharata as 'Kuluta'. Nestled within the lap of the Kullu depression is the ancient town of Manali. The city's name springs from mythological character Manu.

Kullu Manali tourist destinations include Vashist Water Spring, a hot water spring considered sacred, with medicinal properties. Tibetan Monasteries in Kullu Manali are known for their carpet weaving and Tibetan handicraft are also a place to explore. On heading towards the Nehru Kund one can find the unpolluted tranquil waters flowing silently in the lake. The region also has wildlife sanctuary where different varieties of birds and animals can be spotted. Other sightseeing options here are Raghunath Temple, Bijli Mahadev Temple, Sultanpur Palace, Basheshwar Mahadev Temple and Hidimba Devi Temple. The Kullu-Manali tourism is also a stop-by destination for Leh and Ladakh. Dussehra in December is the main festival of this region and tourists from different parts of the world come to enjoy the festival.
