Attractions in Ahmedabad

AhmedabadAhmedabad: The Manchester of India

Ahmedabad or lovingly called as 'Amdavad' is multi-faceted, replete with tempting varieties in cultural traditions, destinations, cuisines and of course, festivals. This old city lies on the eastern side of Sabarmati River and initially, it used to be surrounded by a 10 km long wall, very little of which can be seen now. The new city, located on the western side of the river is enveloped in modernity of the urban town and recites the achievements of Gujarat with Ahmedabad being its former capital. After the creation of Ahmedabad in 1411, the city has witnessed several ups and down. It flourished during the 16th and 17th century but doomed during the 18th century when the Marathas challenged the mighty Mughal Empire. It once again raised its head during the time of Mahatma Gandhi who made it a base for India's Independence Struggle from Gujarat.

Ahmedabad attractions endow few beautiful mosques and temples located in its heart. The stunning Jumma Masjid, made in yellow sandstone enthral the visitors. Sidi Sayyed Mosque and Rani Sipri Masjid in Ahmedabad is some of the other stunning holy places in Ahmedabad. Calico Museum of Textiles, Kite Museum, Adalaj Step well and Sabarmati Ashram are some of the more tourist attractions in Ahmedabad. Makar Sankranti held in January is the major festival of the city when there are numerous kites seen raging war against each other in the clear blues of the sky. Thus, explore the magnanimous side of Gujarat with Ahmedabad tourism. It will definitely leave you in a trance, creating indelible memories for the years to come.
